As an introduction to the international conference (5th to 8th January 2009), the World Blind Union (UMA) and the International Committee for the Commemoration of the Bicentenary of Louis Braille’s Birth (CINAL), under the patronage of the President of the French Republic, are organising a memorial day, which will be the 4th January, the actual anniversary of Louis Braille’s birth.

Programme :

Morning : Commemorative mass in the chapel of the National Institute for the Young Blind, followed by a vin d’honneur given by the Institute.

Afternoon : Laying of a wreath in the Pantheon.

Evening : Recital on the organ of Notre-Dame-de-Paris Cathedral, in homage to the great blind organists, by Jean-Pierre Leguay, a blind organist, organist at Notre-Dame-de-Paris Cathedral
